Oregon State Police have lodged multiple charges, including felony hit-and-run and drunk driving, against an Oregon City woman. Reports say the 38-year-old driver tried to flee a two-car crash on Interstate 205 that injured two teenagers.

According to accident investigators, the suspect was driving a Chrysler Pacifica behind another vehicle along Interstate 205 around 3:45 p.m. on a Sunday. The Chrysler reportedly slammed into the back of a Toyota near the exit to Johnson Creek Boulevard, causing the Toyota's 19-year-old driver to lose control of the car.

The Toyota flipped over and rolled, coming to rest on its roof across two lanes traffic. The driver of the overturned vehicle and a 19-year-old passenger were both hurt in the crash.

Paramedics transported the injured Portland teenagers to Oregon Health & Sciences University, where reports say the pair is under treatment for minor injuries.

The suspect charged with causing the accident allegedly tried to drive away from the scene in her damaged vehicle before authorities could respond. The driver exited Interstate 205 at Johnson Creek Boulevard, and soon abandoned the disabled vehicle, fleeing on foot.

Clackamas County sheriff's deputies picked up the suspect as she was walking in the area of S.E. 82nd Avenue. County authorities then turned over the DUII suspect to Oregon State Police.

Official charges against the Oregon City woman include driving while under the influence of intoxicants, third- and fourth-degree assault, felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, second-degree criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance, attempt to elude police officers and two counts of reckless endangerment.

Being involved in a car accident alone can be very overwhelming. When police issue DUI charges on top of that, it can make a person feel trapped and out of options. However, this is not true. Not everyone who is accused of drunk driving is guilty. It's important for a person facing these charges to have a clear understanding of his or her rights.
